Why are a lot of Christians saying that 2011 is the year the world will end?

It seems that a lot of Christians are saying that 2011 is the year of the end of the world, and they back this up with the whole Harold Camping "prophecy" and the fact that a lot of natural disasters are happening this year. I live in New Zealand, and I find things like this highly offensive, considering the number of people who died in the Christchurch earthquake :(
